Early Donors Push Sr. Janice Memorial Fund Past $100,000

Since its inception three months ago, 32 donors have made gifts to the endowment fund started in memory of Sister Janice Marie Johnson, R.S.M. who died in early January 2023. More than $100,000 has been raised to date for the Sr. Janice Marie Johnson R.S.M. Persons With Disabilities Ministry Endowment Fund with the Catholic Foundation.

The fund, established with an initial gift from Gary Iacocca, honors Sister Janice’s 65 years of ministry to persons with disabilities. It will support the ongoing efforts in the Diocese of Allentown to continue the good work started by Sister Janice, including but not limited to ongoing program support of a dedicated staffed ministry office to manage the Ministry for Persons With Disabilities program, the Aquinas education program at all levels, accessibility efforts and programs at parishes, schools and ministries, and programs at the Diocesan learning centers (Mercy School for Special Learning, John Paul II Center for Special Learning in Reading and St. Joseph Center for Special Learning in Pottsville).

“She was my friend, my mentor and my guiding light,” Iacocca said about Sr. Janice. “It is heartwarming to see people who knew Sister Janice, and were touched by her love, are supporting this endowment so the mission of helping persons with disabilities that Sister advocated for so passionately will continue.”
